Notes
I did another deadpan set tonight, though occasionally found myself slipping into my normal voice a few times, which ruined the effect a little. A lot of my bits didn’t necessarily have punchlines but I was thinking they would pull through based on the weirdness/self-deprecation factor.
They didn’t pull through.
At one point in the show, I heard at least one person say, “That’s wrong”. Also when I walked off stage, someone said (incredulously), “Was he video taping himself?” Well of course I was, I’m a professional.
The crowd was great though. I’m just going to relegate all of this material (except one or two pieces which were great) into the “stuff only I found funny” pile. Or I could use punchlines. Either way.
I feel sad because I actually worked pretty hard on these. But that’s a comedians life. You do 12 bits, you’re lucky if a few of them hit, rinse, wash, and repeat until you have increasing amounts of solid material to rely on.

caught the act last night needs plenty of work and you need to work on your speaking it was hard to understand you at times get the mic out of your mouth. Keep it going it takes time to master the art of stand up just ask some of the big guys out there apparently Dave huges did 20+ open mic nights before people stated to get his stuff

Well that was my 16th. I’m definitely going somewhere, but the change in these last 2 acts to depressed deadpan style has really thrown things out of kilter. I’ll work on it more and see what happens.
I feel my mic control is good, so I’m surprised to hear you say my speaking and/or mic control needs work.
I’ve kept it in the stand as part of the deadpan style I’m testing, and keeping it close and not moving much is part of that. But I might have overcompensated talking into it too much from seeing so many open mic’ers being too far away and inaudible.
Other than that, I did make a couple faults in my delivery of certain phrases and lines that killed things a little.
I haven’t worked up the courage to watch the video again yet, I will in a couple days – it always hurts when it goes poorly
But onwards and upwards.
PS: Thanks for coming and supporting the Perth comedy scene!
